Professional Experience

Prior to joining Vancouver Counseling Group I worked for Providence Health and Systems for 24 years as an Employee Assistance Counselor. I helped hundreds of individuals and families in the Portland-Vancouver area with a wide range of personal, emotional, relational, and workplace problems. I also referred them to appropriate community resources or specialty care as needed.

I completed my undergraduate studies at Columbia Christian College in Portland, Oregon in Counseling Education. I earned my Masters at the University of Portland in 1990 in Human Services and Counseling/Psychology. A native Californian, my husband and I have made our home in the Portland area for several decades. We have two adult sons.

I believe that each person has a drive toward meaning and purpose, toward competence and fulfillment, and toward a life that answers the questions “Who am I,?” “Where am I going?” and “Why?” In pursuing these goals we often encounter obstacles, some thrust upon us and some the result of our own choices. I view counseling, whether short- or longer-term, as a process of helping clients identify and sort out these obstacles. Then we work together to set realistic goals. As a counselor who is also a Christian, I am sustained by the hope that through the counseling process clients will find their own path to becoming the person they want to be.
